Shoppers invade Middle TN grocery stores for holiday fare

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Shoppers made a mad dash to grocery stores across Middle Tennessee on Wednesday to get those last-minute items for their Thanksgiving meals.

"Gonna do a little stuffing and cranberries. Gotta have my stuffing. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it," said shopper Shelia Chandler.

Many folks rushed the Kroger store on Harding Road in Belle Meade, expecting long lines and bare shelves. In fact, store managers said double the number of people walked through the doors Wednesday than on the same day last year.

"People are getting in early. They want to make sure that we're not going to run out," said Assistant Manager Jennifer Coleman.

Chandler was trying to beat the clock, only to learn the store would be open until 5 p.m. Thursday.

By all accounts, it was a mostly stress-free afternoon, so these shoppers can focus less on the meal and more on what's really important.

"Family is really important at this time, you have to give thanks for them," Chandler said.
