Gregory Powers has been charged with vehicular homicide and failure to maintain a lane.
FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -
A motorcycle rider was killed when he was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunk driver Wednesday evening in Franklin.
Thomas Schlapman, 45, of Lynchburg, VA, was killed when the Infiniti driven by Gregory Powers, 46, of Franklin, crossed the center lane on Franklin Road near South Berry's Chapel Road, striking Schlapman's motorcycle.
Schlapman was pronounced dead later that night at Williamson Medical Center.
Franklin police have charged Powers with vehicular homicide and failure to maintain a lane. He remains in the Williamson County jail on a $250,000 bond. Police believe Powers was impaired at the time of the crash and are awaiting the return of blood alcohol test results. More charges could be added later.
According to police, Powers was out on bond for a DUI and vehicular assault charged filed by Franklin police in July. He is set to appear in court Tuesday morning on those charges.
