Fort Campbell families gather to enjoy holiday together

Posted: Updated:

The day before Thanksgiving was a day for fun and family at Fort Campbell as the military spouses and families were invited to come on post and share some good times.

It was a perfect day at the home of the 101st Airborne Division, as the grown-ups in the 1st Special Troops Battalion and Brigade Support Battalion tossed the pigskin in an friendly game of flag football and the kids climbed on the trucks their moms and dads maneuver in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The highlight for many children was a chance to hunt turkeys on the video gun simulator, but the memories of a family holiday together will last much longer.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. My kids will be able to tell this story back in school," said Sgt. Gregory Rouse.

The whole day was set up to let the military families enjoy some time together. Those moments are never taken for granted here.

"When you're gone, you miss out on so much. On the last deployment, I come back and they've changed so much. So, to come back and be here and build memories, this is just priceless," Rouse said.

As for the final score in the football game, let's just say the "good guys" won.
