NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A south Nashville Vietnam veteran is recovering after being attacked inside his home late Tuesday night.

The incident occurred on Zermatt Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

Police said two men armed with guns knocked on a door and attacked the veteran, who is disabled, punching him in the ribs. The resident, Richard Collins, fell onto a glass table and sustained a cut to his elbow.

Collins was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police believe the men were looking for the homeowner's prescription medication. They escaped with Xanax and Collins' cell phone.
