NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Country music star Tracy Lawrence and a group of volunteers are cooking up hundreds of turkeys on Tuesday to feed Nashville's homeless.

This is the seventh annual "Mission Possible" turkey fry.

"It's amazing to see how far it's come and just the number of volunteers and people that come out here wanting to volunteer their time," said Lawrence.

Country artist Bucky Covington and several of the Tennessee Titans are among some of the celebrities lending a hand.

Organizers plan to use 400 gallons of oil, 50 fryers and serve about 500 turkeys.

The Nashville Rescue Mission will then store the birds for several days of feasting by folks who are in need of a good meal.

"We'll do that on Wednesday and Thursday, and feed about 5,000 people," said Lynn Bogle, chief development officer at the Nashville Rescue Mission.

Lawrence has become a turkey-frying pro over the years and said he has fried thousands of turkeys for the good cause.
