Shirley Bachelder, a resident of a retirement manor in Franklin, was approached by a woman dressed in green medical scrubs in the manor's parking lot last Sunday.

Bachelder was returning from church at the time. She thought nothing of seeing someone in scrubs, because some employees at the manor use them. The woman had a friendly demeanor.

"I had seen her and said hello to her. She came over, and she was very friendly. She gave me a hug," said Bachelder.

When Bachelder returned to her apartment at the manor, she noticed her wallet with her credit card was gone. Franklin police believe the wallet was lifted from Bachelder's purse during the hug.

That same day the woman also gained entry to an unlocked apartment at the manor and stole another credit card.

With two credit cards in hand, the woman began a shopping spree at two Targets miles apart.

"She got on Highway 31 headed south. She stopped at the Target in Franklin, and continued on to Spring Hill, where there is also a target on Highway 31," said Franklin Police Detective Eric Johnson.

The cards were eventually flagged, but not before the woman charged more than $6,300 at both Target stores.

Franklin police told Channel 4 News not one cashier asked the woman for a photo identification.

Bachelder, who is 91 years old, said she has learned two valuable lessons.

"I don't have a purse that opens with no clasp, that's number one. And I will be careful about locking my door all the time," said Bachelder.

Bachelder also expressed concern about the woman who stole her credit card.

"I think she should turn around and decide this is not a life for her. I forgive her," said Bachelder.

Williamson County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward.
