Police are tackling a strange and somewhat frightening issue after drivers reported their car windows shattering along one small stretch of a major Middle Tennessee interstate.
Officers want the public to be aware after two drivers had their windows shattered on westbound I-24 between mile markers 9 and 10, both in broad daylight.
They don't know why it is happening or what or who is to blame.
"The thought that you could cause somebody to wreck, too, is even worse," said driver Tracy Hart. "I mean, somebody could get killed with somebody doing something like that."
The first incident involved a man driving a pickup truck, when all of a sudden his driver-side windows shattered.
Then, a 69-year-old woman said she heard a popping sound before her window shattered from a sport near the front window of her car.
Officers could not find any bullets or projectiles, and after an extensive search they did not find anyone lurking in the woods nearby.
So, until they solve this mystery, many drivers are keeping their eyes on the road and on the area around it.
Police say they don't have anything to indicate at this point that either incident was intentional, but they plan to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in the area.
