MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A fire at a mobile home on North Tennessee Boulevard claimed an elderly woman's life, according to firefighters in Murfreesboro.

Crews responded to the fire at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames when they arrived, but "crews did a fantastic job extinguishing the fire quickly," said shift commander Daryl Alexander.

Fire investigators said a neighbor tried to pull the woman out of the flames, but the smoke and fire was too much.

The woman shared the mobile home with a roommate, investigators said, however he was not injured. The Red Cross is assisting the roommate, who hasn't been identified.

At this time, Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department officials are waiting to release the 71-year-old's identity until her family is notified.

There is no word yet on what may have caused the fire, however, the fire marshal's office and Murfreesboro Police Department are on the scene at this time conducting a routine investigation.
