2 seriously hurt in separate Mufreesboro crashes

Two people had to be taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville after two serious crashes Friday in Murfreesboro.

The first wreck involved three vehicles around 11 a.m. on Broad Street near State Route 840.

A passenger was airlifted with a serious head injury.

No other persons in the vehicles sustained serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation, said Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans.

Second crash

A second serious crash in Murfreesboro occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of New Salem Road and Middle Tennessee Boulevard, according to local police. 

The driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on the side of the roadway.  The driver was later flown to Vanderbilt.
