Dozens of La Vergne neighbors received free health screenings Wednesday, thanks to a mobile health unit provided by Middle TN Medical Center.
The mobile health unit works much like a health clinic on wheels, according to MTMC officials.
Nurses and doctors gave free blood pressure checks, stress tests and flu shots.
"I think there are several patients that tell us they haven't been to a doctor in quite some time or wouldn't be able to have this done because the screenings can be quite costly," said Brent Ham, MTMC mobile health unit. "So it's a very good thing for the patients. They can come to these screenings and be able to get this care."
The mobile health units usually serve schools throughout Rutherford County, but at least once a month they partner with St. Thomas Health Care and Mission Point to hold neighborhood screenings.

Kaitlyn Hunt's supporters say she is being prosecuted because she was in a sexual relationship with someone of the same sex. Authorities say it isn't a gay rights issue at all, but rather a simple case of an adult inappropriately involved with a minor.
