Rain today leading to much cooler temperatures

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Temperatures are quickly falling as rain moves out of Middle Tennessee on Monday afternoon.

Steady rain in the morning has transitioned to tapering showers.  Skies will clear to the west of Interstate 65 before sunset, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Paul Heggen. 

Nashville was in the high 50s at 5 a.m. but had fallen to the low 40s by 1 p.m. 

Temperatures in Nashville are expected to fall to about 30 degrees tonight.

Ahead of the temperature drop-off, Chattanooga had 63 degrees at sunrise and Knoxville reported 61. Showers were expected to begin in both cities by midmorning and lows Tuesday were forecast to reach near freezing The expected low in the Tri-Cities early Tuesday is 26 degrees.
