NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The search continues for a driver who struck a woman and drove away Wednesday evening near the Buena Vista neighborhood north of downtown.

The incident was reported around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 10th Avenue North and Jefferson Street.

The victim, identified as Sharon A. Higgins, 46, was walking down the street when the truck struck her.

She was placed in a medically-induced coma and is in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police are looking for a white or light beige pickup truck towing a trailer.  Investigators also believe the truck had a tail light that was out.

"There must be some damage on the front of this vehicle," Metro Police Capt. Paul Trickey said.

Witnesses said that Higgins, who lives at a Union Rescue Mission facility, had just left a liquor store about two blocks away and had been drinking.  Police said she smelled strongly of alcohol.

Investigators with the Metro Police fatal unit worked at the scene for several hours, reconstructing the crash and hoping it could lead to the driver.

Anyone who has information that could help police is asked to call 74-CRIME.
