Clarksville Academy closed due to illness

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

School leaders have decided to close Clarksville Academy until early next week as a large number of students and faculty recover from a string of influenza in the school.

Kay Drew, Head of School at Clarksville Academy, sent a letter to parents on Tuesday notifying them that school will be closed until Tuesday, Nov. 13. She said the time off will allow adequate time for those exhibiting flu-like symptoms to break the cycle of illness.

School officials are reporting 118 students and 11 faculty have been out with either a sickness or the early symptoms of one.

Students who experience symptoms such as headache, congestion, fever and nausea are asked to stay home for seven days from the beginning date they first feel ill, Drew said.

She said teachers will send information to students by email regarding assignments and classwork disrupted by the break.
