NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A man detained in a Nashville park with an AK-47-style pistol across his chest with a loaded 30-round clip is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear his case.
A federal appeals court in August ruled that the park ranger who detained Leonard Embody in 2009 at the Radnor Lake State Natural area did not violate Embody's rights. The ranger let Embody go after determining that the gun was legally considered a handgun and that Embody had a permit for it.
Tennessee law allows handguns in state parks, and handguns are defined as having barrels of less than 12 inches. Embody's gun was a half inch under the limit.
Embody filed his appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court last week.
The Tennessee Attorney General's office had no comment.
