Mt. Juliet police said Friday they have identified a woman that was found shot to death Thursday morning inside a vehicle parked at a storage facility.
Just before 1:15 a.m., an officer was doing a routine patrol through the grounds of U-Store-It located off Central Pike and South Mt. Juliet Road.
During the patrol, the officer spotted a dead woman, Sara A. McPherson, 35, of Mt. Juliet, in the driver's seat of a car.
The medical examiner said the victim died between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 1:13 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators said there is no indication this is a random killing. Police said McPherson was not an employee at the storage facility, and there's no indication the woman was looking at a storage unit.
"Someone may have talked to Sara earlier in the evening. They may have talked to her days before. And conversations they may have had may help us in our investigation," said Mt. Juliet Police Sgt. Tyler Chandler.
Police say McPherson lived close to the storage facility and likely drove herself there to meet someone.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have had contact with McPherson to call the Mt. Juliet Police Department.
The last homicide in Mt. Juliet was in 2010, said authorities.
