NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Students and staff members have been given the all clear to return to a residential hall on the Belmont University campus following a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.

The leak occurred at 2060 15th Avenue South when a construction company working near Dickens Hall struck a gas line.

At 1:30 p.m., the dorm was in the process of being evacuated as a precaution, and university officials allowed students to return after 2 p.m.

Officials said gas leaked into a lower level of a parking garage associated with Dickens Hall.

The gas was shut off as the Nashville Fire Department responded at the scene.
