Megabus promises non-stop service to cities across the country with tickets starting at just $1, but as the service has grown so have complaints from neighbors who say the whole thing is giving them a mega-headache.
You may have seen the company's blue double-decker buses driving downtown or on the interstate.
The company keeps things cheap by not having a bus terminal, and they pick up and drop off right on the side of the road.
People who live and work downtown call it a "pirate bus" that rolls into town taking up space in other bus stops, causing problems and then rolling out of town.
The Viridian Condominiums offers optimal downtown living where residents are right in the middle of it all. Unfortunately, some say, they are now also right in the middle of Megabus.
"You encounter a multitude of people sitting on the sidewalks. If you want to walk on the sidewalk freely, you wouldn't be able to do so. There are cars parking in the alley that are picking people up and dropping people off. You have to dodge cars," said Michael Hagewood, manager of Viridian Condominiums.
Megabus uses the Marta and Green Line bus stop at Fifth and Commerce, and sometimes hundreds of people will be sitting, standing and waiting on the sidewalks and in alleyways there as others try to go about their business nearby.
The Nashville Downtown Partnership plans to raise the issue for the Metro Council to address in November.
Below is a statement that Megabus emailed Channel 4:
"Megabus.com works with local officials to provide the most convenient arrival and departure location for its customers. Megabus.com brings more than 7,000 travelers to Nashville on a monthly basis increasing tourism and boosting the local economy. We welcome a discussion with local organizations to reach a solution to their concern," said Mike Alvich, VP of marketing and public relations for megabus.com.
