5 indicted for Maury County jail smuggling - WSMV Channel 4

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has arrested three people, including a former correctional officer, on charges related to bribery and drug smuggling at the Maury County Jail.

The agency said in a news release Monday that a grand jury last week indicted five people as a result of an investigation that started more than a year ago.

In a covert operation, the TBI, FBI and Maury County Sheriff's Department found that 37-year-old Derek Turner, a correctional officer, was accepting cash payments to smuggle drugs and other contraband into the facility for two inmates.

The two inmates who were also indicted are 40-year-old James Pierce and 35-year-old Benjamin Bradley. Also arrested was Bradley's mother, 52-year-old Linda Chapman, and Pierce's ex-girlfriend, 40-year-old Melinda Bluie.
