MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Amazon has only been in Murfreesboro for a couple of months, but the company is already making a big impact in the community.

Company officials were on hand Thursday to donate 40 Kindle e-Readers to students at Scales Elementary School.

"I think it's going to help them, inspire them to read more," said Brian Owens, general manager of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Murfreesboro.

School leaders said developing reading skills for young students is important and the e-Readers will help the students become even better readers.

They also said modern students learn differently and are very savvy with new technology, so the e-Readers will only enhance that.

Children with exceptional needs will be the first to use the Kindles.

"But I think all children will benefit from that, and that's really is what we want. Reading forms the foundation for all learning and for our exceptional children we want them to have the first shot at this," said Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools.

Amazon also donated $2,500 to Scales Elementary to add more content to the e-Readers.
