NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Angel Tree promotion Sunday night with a show called Nashville Glee at the Grand Ole Opry.

Channel 4's Lisa Spencer introduced the show and Channel 4 has long been a proud sponsor of the Angel Tree.

The Salvation Army says it plans to collect $2 million in gifts this year and provide help to 4,500 Middle Tennessee families.

Col. Charles White said once the Angel Trees begin appearing in shopping malls, it is best to act quickly to choose a child and get the gifts.

He said there is a very large warehouse that will be filled with the gifts and it takes quite a long time to sort them out once they are collected.
