Fort Campbell soldier killed in Afghanistan

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (WSMV) -

A Fort Campbell soldier stationed in Afghanistan died Thursday, according to the Department of Defense.

According to military commanders, Pfc. Shane Wilson, of Kuna, ID, was on duty in the Khost Province when he was killed.

What led to the 20-year-old's death has not been released.

Wilson was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Wilson was a 2011 graduate of Kuna High School.

His family said in a statement that Wilson wanted to join the military from a young age and was proud to be a soldier.

Wilson is survived by his mother, father, two sisters, grandparents and great-grandparents.
