CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police in Clarksville are following several leads in shooting at a house party that injured a man and a woman early Sunday.

According to Officer Jim Knoll, officers heard several shots being fired in the 400 block of North Second Street around 1:30 a.m.

Minutes later, police said 911 dispatchers received several calls about shots fired and that two individuals, a 24-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, had been hit by bullets.

When officers arrived at 424 North Second Street, they found the victims in the front yard of the residence.

Police said the man had been shot in the rib area and was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Nashville in stable condition.

The woman had been shot in the knee and was initially taken to Gateway Medical Center and later transferred to a Nashville hospital in stable condition, according to police.

The exact details of the incident are still sketchy, Knoll said.

Investigators have determined there was a house party at the home and there were several verbal and physical confrontations inside the residence.

Police said a gun was displayed at some point, and the confrontations spilled over to the outside of the house.

Moments later, several shots were fired toward the residence from across the street by unidentified subjects, and the man and woman were hit by gunfire, police said.

Witnesses have told police men were seen shooting towards the residence from the street and then quickly left the scene in different vehicles, Knoll said.

Officers found several shell casings on the lot and in the street at 415 North Second Street.

Police detained and questioned six people who had either been at the house party or witnessed the events that occurred, Knoll said.
