HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WSMV) -

A beloved coach who helped lead the Christian County High School softball team to four state titles has lost his battle with cancer.

Jim Perrin, 65, died Monday.

He was named Kentucky coach of the year four times in his career, which spanned more than three decades.

A colleague, umpire Chuck Standiford, said Perrin always preached to his players to never be afraid to fail.

Perrin also coached the Lady Govs softball team at Austin Peay State University for four seasons and the Trigg County Lady Wildcats.
