An area high school football coach has been arrested and charged with assault after an alleged incident involving a player.
Portland police said assistant coach George Michael Coley walked into an office area that is normally off-limits to students, but there was a group of eight football players inside who had been speaking with the team's head coach.
The head coach was no longer in the room, and police said Coley used obscenities and ordered the students to leave.
When one of the student's replied, Coley allegedly shoved the student then grabbed him with one hand around the throat for a few seconds, police said.
Coley faces one count of assault and was jailed on $1,000 bond.
A hearing is set for Oct. 24.
