NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The most popular religion in America is not so popular anymore.
For the first time in U.S. history, the number of Protestant adults has reached a new low, according to the Pew Research Center.
A growing amount of people don't identify themselves with a traditional religious denomination.
One in five people do not have a religious identity, said the study. This group known as "Nones" is gaining ground on Catholics.
About 22 percent of Americans claim themselves as Catholic while 20 percent claim to have no faith.
In the 1960s, two in three Americans called themselves Protestant. Today the percentage is down to about 48 percent.
