Maximiliano Ocon
LAVERGNE, TN (WSMV) -
A Rutherford County man accused of killing his girlfriend and writing satanic messages with her blood is due in court Monday afternoon.
Rafaela Ortiz was found dead at her home in LaVergne in November 2010. Police said she was strangled and hit in the head with a hammer.
Her boyfriend, Maximiliano Ocon, was arrested in Texas the next day. He was allegedly getting ready to board a flight to El Salvador.
After the homicide, investigators said Ocon used the victim's blood to write satanic messages on her bedroom wall.
The district attorney in the case said Ocon has received two mental evaluations and is competent to stand trial, so he will not be able to use an insanity defense.
There will be a pretrial conference on Oct. 29. The trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 11.
