MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) -
A fire at an elementary school in Wilson County damaged a portion of the roof Thursday morning, said local emergency management officials.
The fire occurred around 6:30 a.m. at Rutland Elementary School on South Rutland Road.
Officials said the school was in process of being reroofed when something inside a tool box on the roof caught fire.
The fire caused a foot-size hole in the roof over the gym and damaged at total area of about 6 to 7 feet.
When crews arrived at the scene, they said there were flames and smoke coming out of the school.
School is currently on fall break, but child care is still operating Thursday, and parents can still drop off their children.
