NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A civil rights attorney in Nashville has filed for an emergency appeal of the voter identification law before the November election.
George Barrett has asked for a hearing with the Tennessee Court of Appeals no later than Oct. 12.
His application asked state officials to remove government-issued photo IDs as a voter requirement.
This week, a judge blocked Pennsylvania's new voter ID law for the November election.
Early voting starts Oct. 17 in Tennessee.
