Nashville attorney challenges voter ID law

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A civil rights attorney in Nashville has filed for an emergency appeal of the voter identification law before the November election.

George Barrett has asked for a hearing with the Tennessee Court of Appeals no later than Oct. 12.

His application asked state officials to remove government-issued photo IDs as a voter requirement.

This week, a judge blocked Pennsylvania's new voter ID law for the November election.

Early voting starts Oct. 17 in Tennessee.
