LAFAYETTE, TN (WSMV) -
The former Lafayette police chief has been arrested after he was accused of assaulting a prisoner.
Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested Ray Amalfitano on Tuesday. He had already resigned as chief last month but had been working as an officer in Westmoreland.
The district attorney asked the TBI to look into what happened last March as a suspect sat in the back of a county patrol car.
The man said he was handcuffed when Amalfitano attacked him, but the former chief denies the allegations.
