In the event that children need specialized healthcare, families in Williamson County soon won't have to drive to Nashville.
Williamson Medical Center announced plans Monday for a major expansion, including a new tower for pediatric services.
It will named the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Williamson Medical Center.
The hospital is affiliated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Williamson Medical Center officials said the hospital needs a department dedicated to children's care because emergency room staff are treating more than 6,000 children a year.
The state has yet to approve the expansion plan.
