Firefighter accused of stabbing brother to death outside LP Field

There was a lot to celebrate last weekend after a centennial homecoming and big football victory for Tennessee State University, but the winning score was overshadowed by tragedy.

A fight between two brothers led to a fatal stabbing at LP Field on Saturday night.

Jesse Alexander, 26, was killed, and police said his brother, Joshua Alexander, 38, a Nashville firefighter, is the man who killed him in a likely case of self defense.

The brothers were at a tailgating event following the TSU homecoming game.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family," said TSU spokesman Rick DelaHaya. "It could have happened anytime, and it's very unfortunate it happened at LP Field during our homecoming game."

Witnesses told police the two men got into a dispute and began fighting in the stadium parking lot. After being stabbed, Jesse approached a police officer and collapsed. He was rushed to Baptist Hospital where he later died.

Joshua Alexander does not face any charges, but he has been placed on paid administrative due to the police investigation, according to Nashville Fire Deputy Chief Kim Lawson.
