NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
All westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the Interstate 24 split have reopened following a pair of wrecks just east of downtown Friday afternoon.
The first wreck, which involved a trackhoe that fell from the bed of a tractor trailer, was reported just before 2 p.m. near exit 21, and a second wreck followed in the same area.
A TDOT spokesperson said engineers needed to inspect the road and bridge before the road was reopened.
At one point, TDOT reported a backup of at least five miles in the area.
Officials have not indicated whether any injuries or other vehicles were involved.
