James Leon Ridley Jr.
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Police said a man shot and killed his uncle in self defense Thursday night in south Nashville.
The incident occurred in the 400 block of Mallory Street around 6 p.m.
Investigators said James Leon Ridley, Jr., 55, was shot by his nephew, Leondra Ridley, 31, shortly after 6 p.m.
Police said Leondra Ridley was called to the residence by family members who told him that James Ridley had shown up intoxicated and was violent.
Three children, ages 4, 6 and 7, were hiding with their mother in a closet due to their fear of James Ridley, said police.
When Leondra Ridley arrived, he and James Ridley apparently engaged in a physical fight. Leondra Ridley, who has a valid handgun permit, told detectives that he shot his uncle one time in self-defense. No charges have been filed.
James Ridley suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He died shortly after arrival at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
