Shooting, wreck reported near Belmont campus

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Two people were wounded in a shooting Thursday afternoon near the Belmont University campus.

The shooting was reported just after 2 p.m. near the intersection of Wedgewood Avenue and 14th Avenue South.

Witnesses reported seeing one car pull alongside another, and the occupants shot at the second vehicle. In the exchange of gunfire, one person was hit in the arm and another in the buttocks.

The second vehicle crashed along Wedgewood after the shooting.

Both shooting victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Belmont police said there is no threat to safety on campus, and officials have not released any information regarding possible suspects.
