Missing Stewart County brothers found safe

Posted: Updated:

Three missing brothers were located safely Thursday after they went missing Wednesday night in Stewart County.

The boys were identified as 11-year-old Justin Sudbury, 15-year-old Jason Sudbury and 16-year-old Alex Sudbury.

According to police, two of the teenage boys, Jason and Justin, ran away from their Lee Hollow Road home near the community of Indian Mound. Alex then went searching for them.

On Thursday, neighbor Jerry Hairston said he was driving down Lee Hollow Road and saw them come out of the woods.  He then drove them home to their parents.

"I said, 'Did you know that everybody's out there looking for y'all?'" said Hairston. "I took them home to their house. They were getting hugs from their mother and from their father. Their father even gave me a hug. I don't think they had any idea the amount of people out looking for them. I don't think they had any idea. They had little blank faces and that 'wow, we're in trouble' look."

In addition to law enforcement, around 20-30 people volunteered their time to look for the missing boys.

Crews had been searching for the children since 9 p.m. on the ground and also used a helicopter to scan the woods.
