COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) -

A group of teenagers were arrested over the weekend for using an iPhone app to impersonate police officers.

Maury County officials said Tucker Shields and Jake Randall, both 19, along with a 17-year-old were suspected in the case.

Investigators said the trio were driving along Pulaski Highway on Sunday night using an app that simulates police lights and sirens to pull over unsuspecting drivers.

An off-duty officer spotted the group. Shields and Randall were both charged with criminal impersonation - a misdemeanor. The 17-year-old boy has not been charged.

The teens told police they didn't know what they were doing was illegal.
