THOMPSON'S STATION, TN (WSMV) -

A lit cigarette may be responsible for a house fire in a rural area of Williamson County on Wednesday morning.

The blaze occurred just after 5 a.m. on Eiderdown Drive in Thompson's Station.

Capt. Tim Hood with the Williamson County Rescue Squad said they received a call about a fire in an upper room of the home.

A husband and wife who live at the house heard the smoke alarms and escaped unharmed. They were in a downstairs bedroom when the fire occurred.

Crews had the fire under control in about 10 minutes, but there is substantial damage to an upstairs room where the fire started.
