CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - History fanatics and military enthusiasts should head to Clarksville to see a World War II amphibious vessel that is a floating museum and memorial.
The LST, which stands for landing ship, tank, is a unique ship design that allows the ship to land battle-ready tanks, troops and supplies directly onto enemy shores.
Starting Wednesday and running through Sunday, the LST-325 will be docked along the Cumberland River in Clarksville. The LST-325 was used in Allied invasion of Sicily, and the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach in France, and in Belfast, Ireland.
The ship will be open for self-guided tours and ship personnel will be on hand to answer questions.
