Family seeks help to find stolen heirloom truck

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A mom, grandmother and great-grandmother are all banding together in an effort to find a family heirloom stolen in the night.

"Whoever you are, I think you're young," said family member Elaine Ashby. "You've got a great life ahead of you. Just do right. We do forgive you for taking it. You had a reason, not a good one. At the time, it seemed like a good idea."

You can usually find Blakely Frederick, her mother-in-law Melody Hutchison, and her mother Elaine Ashby sitting out on the porch in Clarksville, laughing until it hurts. Now, they're finding strength in each other to keep laughing despite the painful experience of a truck stolen on Edmonson Ferry Road.

Family members believe around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, someone came on the property and busted out a window of the truck. A neighbor up the street saw someone pushing the vehicle up out of the drive way and into the road. There, they hot wired it and took off.

A 1986 Chevrolet, family members said the truck was the pride of Ashby's father, had been given $60,000 in customizations and was meant to be passed down to Frederick's 8-year-old son, Braedyn.

"The thing that touched me the most is that my grandson told us he'd pray for the people who did this," Hutchison said. "That just really touched my heart."

"At the end of this prayer, he said, 'I think this man, Lord, took me and my daddy's truck because he seen it, and he just had to have it cause it was pretty,'" Ashby said.

For now, these three generations of family said they're just waiting for the day they can sit laughing on that porch as always, with the truck in their view.

"They can drop it off on the side of the road and leave it, just let us find it," Frederick said. "We don't care who took it. It's not a thing of who took it. We just want the truck back."

Despite some neighbors playing witness to the crime, they said they did not see the suspects. If you have any information, Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward. You can call their tips line at 931-645-TIPS. Tips can be anonymous.
