MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A historic Murfreesboro home was damaged by a house fire Monday night.

The fire occurred on North Maney Drive around 9 p.m.

Investigators said the blaze started up the attic, causing heavy smoke and flames to shoot through the roof.

Crews were able to contain the blaze, and everyone inside the home escaped safely.

Murfreesboro Councilmember Doug Young and Judge Ben Hall McFarlin own the house, which was being rented at the time.

Young estimates the house was built in the 1920s, according to a report in the Daily News Journal.

Investigators are still unsure of the cause of the fire.
