MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) -
Mt. Juliet will have its own fire department for the first time in decades.
On Monday night, city commissioners approved the restoration of the fire department with a unanimous vote.
The city hasn't had a fire department since 1986.
Mayor Ed Hagerty said the move will double ambulance and fire service by July 2013 and triple it by the year 2016.
In 2011, the city approved a tax increase to fund the department.
