COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) - Columbia is known around Tennessee for its annual Mule Day celebration, but now the rural town of Westmoreland is holding its own Mule Day.
The celebration that kicks off on Monday will actually be the town's third annual celebration.
Dee Cee Neeley, a longtime Mule Day Parade organizer in Maury County, helped Westmoreland organize its celebration and will be the Sumner County event's grand marshal.
Neeley encouraged Westmoreland's celebration to increase awareness about mules - the hybrid of a male donkey and a female horse.
Sumner County Executive Anthony Holt told The Daily Herald his county is not trying to compete with Maury. He said he hopes the two celebrations will complement each other. Maury's celebration was held in late March.
