CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Baylor head coach Phil Massey told everyone all week that this would be a dog fight, but even he didn't expect it would come down to a two-point conversion.

Lucky for him, a failed two-point conversion was the difference in Baylor's 28-26 win over rival McCallie in the Friday Night Football Game of the Week.

The Blue Tornado (2-3) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead thanks to two Chad Toliver touchdowns.

But the Red Raiders (4-2) would answer with answer with two scoring drives behind the arm of quarterback Michael O'Conner. After big games through the air, Taylor Maxey scored from 5-yards out making it a seven point game.

O'Conner then connected with a streaking Jeffery Bowens, a play that stretched 86-yards for the game-tying score, 14-14 at the half.

Baylor took control for a moment after a McCallie turnover to open the third quarter. Houston Clements turned that into a 21-14 Red Raider lead after his short rushing touchdown.

McCallie wasn't done, quarterback Nelson Johnston hooked up with Eric Wolf but Baylor blocked the PAT. A play that would haunt McCallie in the coming minutes.

Baylor went back to work midway through the fourth quarter - O'Conner scored on a keeper putting the Red Raiders up eight, 28-26.

Baylor's defense forced a punt but O'Conner would fumble it away with just under five to play.

New life for the Blue Raiders.

Johnston orchestrated a 10 play, 61-yard scoring drive capped off with a 22-yard pass to Spencer Morgan.

That's where Landry Taylor's PAT block earlier in the game proved huge, as Baylor's defense stuffed Toliver short of the goal-line on the two-point conversion to seal the Red Raiders' fifth straight win in the series.
