Jerome Stone has been arrested in connection with the shooting of DeMarcus Jordan-Ellis.
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A suspect arrested last year in connection with the fatal shooting of a Hillsboro High School student has now been indicted on first-degree murder charges.
Last fall, police arrested Jerome Lendel Stone, 20, at his Rio Vista Drive home.
Investigators said Stone shot DeMarcus Jordan-Ellis, 17, over a drug deal.
The body of Jordan-Ellis was discovered around Sept. 19, 2012, in the 700 block of Vanderhorst Drive in north Nashville.
The next day detectives located a gold Chevrolet Impala that witnesses had seen in front of Jordan-Ellis' home at the time of the shooting.
The owner of the car, who has not been identified, told police he drove Stone to Vanderhorst Drive so he could buy marijuana from Jordan-Ellis. Police said the victim had previously sold marijuana from his residence.
"According to the driver of the car, once inside Stone pulled a gun. The driver of the car then said he fled out of the residence, and as he was doing so shots rang out," said Metro Police Spokesman Don Aaron.
The car owner told police that as Stone emerged from the home, the victim was screaming. He said Stone then re-entered the residence and additional shots were fired, killing Jordan-Ellis.
The car owner said when Stone rant to the Impala, he was carrying a plastic grocery bag containing marijuana that the victim had retrieved prior to the gunfire.
"Dealing in drugs - selling, buying - is inherently dangerous. It can cause extreme violence and murder," Aaron said.
Stone was cited in July 2012 for possession of marijuana. So far, police have not charged his driver with anything, but they said the investigation continues.
Family copes with second death in recent years
Family members of the victim said this is the second death they've faced in the last two years.
DeMarcus' cousin, Michael Walker, who was also a student at Hillsboro High School, was 16 years old when he was fatally shot in November 2010.
Michael was killed in a Nashville alley near Bransford Avenue.
