NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday that an EF0 tornado struck Bedford County on Monday afternoon.

The tornado occurred at 4:02 p.m. and started five miles east of Shelbyville, between Shelbyville and Normandy.

It was on the ground for one mile, and it had winds estimated at 65 to 85 mph.

Officials said there was no other evidence of tornadic activity during Monday's storms in Middle Tennessee, but the steady rainfall caused other problems.

Putnam County officials confirmed eight water rescues from the storms that caused 5 inches of rain to fall in areas of the Cumberland Plateau.

Police said the rain caused several other problems including a car crash, several road closures and flooding to homes and businesses.

Some homes and basements have water damage, and several roads were impassable Monday evening in Rutherford, DeKalb, Warren and Bedford counties.

Resident Jeff Coppinger said he had a clear view of what looked like a funnel cloud passing over Bethany Road not far from his Warren County house at about 4:30 p.m.

Officials have not confirmed there was a tornado in Warren County, but Sheriff Jackie Matheny said utility crews were working in the area after several trees and power lines were downed.

Clearing skies will bring temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday night in the mid 40s.
