MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The National Transportation and Safety Board will look into what caused a fiery plane crash Sunday afternoon near the Moontown Airport in Brownsboro.

The Madison County Coroner said George Gilbert Myers, 74, and Christian Schmitt, 17, were killed in the crash. According to Myers' Facebook page, he was the former owner of the Moontown Airport.

The YAK 52 aircraft went down at 3:20 p.m. Sunday on Airport Drive. Officials said the pilot was participating in the annual Moontown Grass Field Fly-In event.

Myers owned the Moontown Airport at Brownsboro.

Witnesses said the plane was flying along with several other aircrafts before breaking off from the group.  John Williams was attending the event with his family.  He said they were in a nearby field when they heard the crash.

"Seen the plane go up as an acrobat and then come back down, had done a flip and then a nose dove straight to the ground," said Williams.

No other injuries were reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration is also investigating.
