North Alabama delaying move to NCAA DI

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - The University of North Alabama is delaying its move to the NCAA's Division I.

Trustees voted Monday to postpone the transition one year to fall 2014 instead of next year. The Division II school would now compete at the Division I level for the first time in the 2018-2019 season.

The TimesDaily of Florence (http://bit.ly/NmaSnK ) reports that the school's move is contingent on being able to join an athletic conference.

But while North Alabama has expressed an interest in joining the Ohio Valley Conference, athletic director Mark Linder says the league isn't expanding at this time.

Linder says the athletics department has raised 93% in cash or pledges of the $3 million set as the goal for a move to Division I.
