Middle TN events to mark anniversary of 9/11 attacks

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorism attacks, and several events across Middle Tennessee will pay tribute to the lives lost.

Lipscomb University will hold a ceremony on campus to mark the moment when the first plane struck the World Trade Center by sounding bells at 7:46 a.m. The ceremony begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Allen Arena Bell Tower, which is adjacent to Allen Arena.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office will dedicate a new 9/11 memorial at 6 p.m. The memorial includes a beam from one of the World Trade Center towers. The memorial is located at 940 New Salem Hwy. in Murfreesboro.

A memorial in Crossville also includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. The Cumberland County Fire Department will dedicate the memorial with a ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. at the main fire station, located at 1391 Livingston Rd.

In La Vergne, the public is invited to join the city's fire and police departments for a ceremony at 8:45 a.m. at City Hall during which fire department personnel will ring a bell in honor of fellow men and women who died.

Clarksville Fire Rescue will hold its annual ceremony honoring fallen firefighters and other victims of the 9/11 tragedy. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the main fire station, located at 802 Main St., in Clarksville.

And at Fort Campbell, a wreath will be laid at McAuliffe Hall in honor of the lives lost.
