A popular Brentwood spa has suddenly closed its doors, leaving customers with hundreds of dollars lost in gift certificates.
The Blue River Canyon Day Spa on Thoroughbred Lane advertises everything from relaxing spa packages to event planning, and the sign outside says they are open Monday through Saturday.
But the spa is closed, and the owner has been facing financial problems for quite some time now.
A Facebook page for the business is full of angry customers who are wondering if they will get their money back.
But Channel 4 News did some digging and found Blue River Canyon Day Spa has a rocky financial past. The business first filed for bankruptcy in 2010, then once again filed for Chapter 11 this summer. According to bankruptcy court records, the spa owes more than $682,000 to numerous creditors.
Despite that most recent bankruptcy filing in July, Blue River Canyon Day Spa was still advertising for end-of-Summer specials just a few weeks ago. And the business posted a message on its Facebook page as recently as Aug. 23, saying gift certificates and coupons would not be accepted for that special.
Channel 4 News has made numerous efforts to try to contact the spa's owner for their side of the story, but our calls and emails have not yet been returned.
