Hundreds gather for candlelight vigil for murdered family

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A somber ceremony took place in Bellevue on Saturday night. Sunday will mark exactly one week since three members of a family were murdered inside their home, and hundreds of mourners gathered at Red Caboose Park to pay their respects.

"One of our babies is gone," Comeisha Bradford said wiping back tears.

There wasn't a dry eye in sight Saturday as hundreds of mourners gathered at Red Caboose Park to remember the victims of Sunday's triple murder.

"It's sad and it's scary to know that it could be anyone," 14-year-old Gabby Depalo said.

Young members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church organized tonight's candlelight vigil. Many, like Debby Maddox, didn't even know the family but came anyway to pay their respects.

"It's way too close to home. and you know we always say it never could happen in our neighborhood. But it can," Maddox said.

While others, like Bradford, whose sons were friends with Jonathan Culpepper, were drawn here.

"How are you helping them get through this? Like this talks asking them how they're feeling and trying to be there for them," Bradford said.

For 10-year-old Kaylee Grigg, it was a way for her to remember her former classmate's family.

"We knew them and it was kind of important to be here," she said.

Each consoled each other, as the victims smiling faces stared back. It was a haunting reminder of what happened early last Sunday morning when Marylea Jordan, Michelle Pinkowski and 14-year-old Jonathan were stabbed to death.

"It was really a shock and it's still a shock. And it will be for some time," Maddox said.

Hundreds of candles are lighting the mourners' way through one of the community's darkest periods.

"It's gonna be alright. We'll be OK," Bradford added.

There's going to be a visitation from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens.

Another visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service.
